The rose-tinted film, which Mashable’s Christy Puchko called “a marvel for a movie studio,” takes place in Barbieland, where Barbies are leaders, pioneers and rulers. Every day is seemingly perfect, but largely the same, as Margot Robbie’s Stereotypical Barbie soon realizes as she grows increasingly disillusioned and begins to think about death?

Barbie, along with her crush Ken (Ryan Gosling), decide to go to the Real World after Weird Barbie (Kate McKinnon) explains that the girl playing with her doll version is going through a crisis. Here, Barbie discovers the patriarchy (mostly in the form of Mattel executives), finds an ally in Gloria (America Ferrera), and must confront her built-in existential crisis. But another group discovering patriarchy? The Kens family.

There are many Easter eggs and unexpected characters along the way, and there’s no post-credits scene, so you can rollerblade back into the real world at the end.
