When asked to share his best parenting advice, McHale joked that “drink more” would be his number one piece of advice.
“My father’s advice to me was when I had my first child, he looked at me and smiled and said, ‘You’re ready now,'” he recalls. “This will be very honest. Love them, love them, love them. You’ll mess it up, but just love them as much as you can. You’ll screw it up, and then you’ll probably do a lot of things right.”

The House of Villains host explained that he’s definitely not the “cool dad” – although Eddie and Isaac are often mentioned in McHale’s comedy specials.
“I talked about them stand-up, and they were like, ‘It’s okay, you just have to pay us,'” he said. “I’m like, ‘I’ve been paying for your life.'”
While McHale’s parenting gig is definitely keeping him busy, the star still finds time to collaborate with Drizly to help launch the brand’s first-ever gift registry — something McHale “actually” uses.
“Instead of people just guessing what they’ll give you for bottles and drinks, make a list and then people can walk in and say, ‘Oh, they like Don Julio 1942. Great, I’ll make them have that,’” he explained to us. “You get The thing you love. …It takes a lot of guesswork when buying gifts.
When it comes to McHale’s favorite alcohol, he’s looking to Dos Equis beer, Bulleit Bourbon, Ketel One, Don Julio 1942 or Johnnie Walker Black this holiday season.
“I also love red, white and sparkling wines. I love everything. “My list is long.”
