ICC World Cup Final – Australia player’s reactions after their win over India – LSB

Australia won their sixth men’s ODI World Cup title by defeating India in front of more than 90,000 fans in Ahmedabad. Below are their players’ reactions shortly after scoring the winning goals.

Josh Hazlewood“I think this is bigger [than 2015]. Obviously we won at home in front of our home fans, but the challenges we’ve been through in the last couple of months – coming here and playing in those conditions against India, who are a very special team. Once again, to win on a day like this is amazing. Such a great crowd. The Indians fans are second to none. A couple started leaving there towards the end, but some crowds! I think that’s just the belief in the team. The first two games were probably against the two best teams in the competition, but it was knocking on wood for basically the whole tournament and I was on the run. I think tonight was our perfect game. “We bring it together when it matters.”

Marnus Labuschagne: “What we achieved today is unbelievable. It’s the best achievement I’ve ever been involved in. Just coming to India… ten out of ten, and one to play – they were the team of the tournament. They played unbelievable. But you know if we play our best “In cricket, we’ll have a chance. Our bowlers were sensational, and then Travis put on a fantastic show. It’s great to be a part of it. I know guys I know I’m a man of faith, I believe in God. The way everything happened is unbelievable to me.” It’s amazing; I’m at a loss for words. The number of times I thought I was done – until last night The team wasn’t named until about 10.10 [pm]. The coaches went to the ground – it might be wet, I might be out. I am very grateful to them for sticking with me. I don’t have many words to explain it. A few months ago, I wasn’t even in South Africa on the one-day team; To play 19 matches in a row is truly a miracle. I do not know how; I thank God for that.”

David Warner: “Our bowlers were fantastic, the kind of flow from the last game, they set the tone first ball and backed up the play again tonight. [India] Being out for 240 in the final is absolutely exceptional. There was a bit of nervous energy in the changing room [during the chase]. We sat in the dressing room part, we sat in the dining room part, and at one point we walked in to have a look. Great partnership there with Marnus and Heidi. What an amazing comeback from Heidi! [got] Injured in South Africa, he scored 100 goals in his first match and 100 goals here tonight in front of a packed crowd. “He was absolutely phenomenal.”

Stephen Smith: “It’s unbelievable, it was a fantastic atmosphere here today. It was just a fantastic performance. As Davey just said, our bowlers really set the tone, and it was fantastic playing this evening. Travis Head, the display he put on was unbelievable.” [He] He kept the game going even when we were 3 for 60 singles [47 for 3],keep moving forward, keep playing to his strengths. I thought Marnus played an incredible strike at the other end in a supporting role. It’s been a great partnership, and yes, another partnership [World Cup title].

“It wasn’t the ideal start for us. Yes, we had faith that we had a good group of players here, a great staff, and we had faith that we would come back, and fortunately, we were able to do that and get ourselves back.” To the top four, then it’s a whole new ball game from there. Australia usually play well in those moments and yes, it’s another dream come true today to win another final. It was a big year for us, winning the title. The Test Championship and then this, it was great fun.”

Glenn Maxwell: “It feels great. I think we were all pretty excited when it was down to 20.” [required]. I’m kind of resigned to the fact that I won’t have to hit–like that often [in] 2015 – Unfortunately, Heidi left. But it was nice to be out there with Marnus, and for the guys to come out – and what a win! It’s a little different when you watch Heidi take on Bumrah; It’s not often to be next… but how good are these two! Marnus absorbed the pressure there – he was absolutely brilliant – and that ball you hit under pressure in the final was like no other.

Mitchell Marsh: “Pure jubilation. I said to some of the boys earlier – it was tough. We won when Sri Lanka were 0 for 120; that feels like a lifetime ago. But to be here with this group, it’s unbelievable.”
