Cricket World Cup 2023 Final – Pro-Palestine pitch raiders breach security during India’s innings – LSB

A pro-Palestine protester broke through the security cordon at the Narendra Modi Stadium during the World Cup final match between India and Australia in Ahmedabad.

The incident occurred just before the first drinks break during the India tour, and the person reached Virat Kohli’s distance at mid-off before being caught by security personnel.

The stadium intruder was identified as Wayne Johnson, an Australian of Chinese-Filipino descent, and he was arrested and taken to Chand Kheda police station in Ahmedabad, according to PTI.

Johnson was wearing a face mask with a Palestinian flag design and a T-shirt bearing the slogan “Stop the Bombing of Palestine” on the front and “Save Palestine” on the back. The ICC does not allow political protests at cricket matches, but as Johnson is a foreign national, it is not yet known what kind of action will be taken against him.

Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement have been waging a war since October 7.
