Sydney Sixers 140 for 7 (Carmichael 32*, Graham 3-18, Smith 3-20) Hurricanes Hobart 139 for 7 (Lee 50, Graham 36) with three wickets

A late cameo from Matilda Carmichael powered the Sydney Sixers to a WBBL final-ball win over the Hobart Hurricanes, keeping their slim finals chances alive.

Carmichael top-scored with an unbeaten 32 off 21 balls in the seventh over at Blundstone Arena on Monday night as the Sixers reached their target of 140 with three wickets remaining.

The Sixers needed 30 off the last three overs when Carmichael, the former off-spinner, came alive with back-to-back boundaries off Shabnim Ismail.

Needing 10 runs from the last over, Carmichael hit a crucial four off the first ball before some quick runs tied the game with one ball remaining.

Kate Peterson held her nerve against a Molly Strano turnover to ice the game with a single off the final delivery.

This victory was the fourth in a row for the Sixers, which moved them two points away from the fourth-placed Brisbane Heat with four games remaining in the season. The Heat still have five games under their belt.

The Hurricanes appeared to have the upper hand when teenage leg-spinner Amy Smith and medium-pacer Heather Graham applied pressure in the mid to late overs.

Smith had career best figures of 3 for 20 which included the big scalp of Ash Gardner in the 13th over. Graham took 3 for 18 including two wickets in the 16th over which left the Sixers reeling at 107 for 7.

The Hurricanes had earlier scored 139 for 8 on the back of a 34-ball 50 from opener Lizelle Lee. She hit seven fours, a single and a six and raised her half-century with a boundary through cover but was caught deep on the next ball.

Lee was supported by Graham, who scored 36 off 28 but the Hurricanes fell at the back end of their innings.

They remain sixth on the ladder with three wins from nine starts.
