Elite status travelers receive a range of perks, including complimentary breakfast at hotel and flight upgrades. These benefits are often extended to companions when they travel together. However, what options are available when your family or friends travel without you?
Some programs allow you to gift someone else with elite status for lodging or travel, including Hyatt’s Guest of Honor program, Air Canada’s Status Pass, and American Airlines’ Miles opportunities. Several programs even allow you to gift another traveler full elite status.
Here’s a look at some of the programs that allow you to gift elite status for a day, stay or extended stay.
Air Canada Aeroplan offers its 50K, 75K and Super Elite members the option to select Status Pass through the Select Benefit Bundle. Super Elite members are automatically given two passes per year as a key benefit.
Simply put, Status Pass enables elite members to share their benefits with other travelers even if they are not traveling together. Pass recipients will get the following benefits:
- Priority check in
- Three checked bags with priority handling
- Priority security screening
- Access to the Maple Leaf Lounge
- Priority airport standby
- Priority boarding
Each Status Pass covers an entire Air Canada reservation, including award flights, for up to nine travelers booked together. However, it is important to note that Status Pass benefits are exclusive to Air Canada flights.
In addition to the Status Pass benefit, Air Canada allows select elite members to gift status directly to others. Aeroplan 75K elite members can gift Aeroplan 35K status as Select Benefit and Super Elite members can gift Aeroplan 50K status as Select Benefit.
